U.S. Military Confirms Three F-15 Jets Shot Down in Kuwait Due to Kuwaiti Air Defense System Malfunction

The U.S. confirmed that three Air Force F-15 fighter jets were shot down in Kuwait due to a misunderstanding by the air defense system, resulting in friendly fire. Six pilots ejected and are safe.

On 2 March 2026, The New York Times reported citing the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) that three U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were shot down in Kuwait that morning in an incident classified as "Friendly Fire."

CENTCOM stated that the three jets were supporting Epic Fury, a joint U.S.-Israel operation against Iran. At the time, intense fighting was ongoing with attacks from Iranian aircraft, missiles, and drones. However, Kuwait’s air defense system mistakenly fired upon the U.S. jets, causing them to crash.

The statement confirmed that all six crew members safely ejected, were rescued, and are in stable condition. Kuwaiti authorities have acknowledged the incident, while the U.S. expressed gratitude to Kuwait's defense forces for their support. The incident is under thorough investigation.
