China Announces Support for Irans Sovereignty, Condemns US and Israel for Deliberate Provocation

The Chinese government announced its support for Iran to defend its sovereignty, while accusing the US and Israel of violating the United Nations Charter and deliberately provoking war with Iran.

China's state-run CCTV reported on 2 Mar 2026 that Wang Yi told Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a phone call that China supports Iran in defending itself against attacks from the US and Israel amid a war spreading across the Middle East.

Wang told Araghchi that the Chinese government values the longstanding friendship between China and Iran and supports Iran in protecting its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and national dignity, as well as defending its legitimate rights and interests.

According to CCTV, Wang Yi also stated that China "calls on the US and Israel to immediately cease military operations, avoid escalating tensions further, and prevent the conflict from spreading throughout the Middle East region."

Wang also spoke by phone with Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, accusing the US and Israel of violating the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter by deliberately provoking war with Iran.

"China is ready to play a constructive role, including upholding justice, committing to peace, and stopping the war through the United Nations Security Council," Wang said.

Additionally, Wang spoke with Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Minister for European and Foreign Affairs, warning that the world risks regressing to an era of the "law of the jungle," where only the strongest survive.

"Great powers cannot attack other countries at will by relying on their military superiority," Wang Yi said. "Ultimately, Iran's nuclear issue must return to the path of political and diplomatic solutions."
