On Monday, 2 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Beirut, Lebanon's capital, was struck multiple times by Israeli air attacks throughout the day, targeting locations believed to be bases of Hezbollah and possibly senior figures within Islamic Jihad, an ally of Hezbollah.
Following a small salvo of rockets fired by Hezbollah into northern Israel, Israel responded with a significantly expanded military operation, striking Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and Beirut, especially in the southern suburbs long known as Hezbollah strongholds.
Israeli officials stated that the retaliation was necessary after Hezbollah launched rockets into northern Israel.
Lebanon's disaster management agency announced that the death toll from Israel's day-long attacks has risen from 31 to 52, with 154 others wounded.
