A video shared in Jordanian WhatsApp groups captured a security alert message in both Arabic and English from the embassy's loudspeakers, saying, “Duck and take cover, move away from windows, seek shelter and await further instructions.”
The US Embassy's action in Jordan followed reports of attacks on the US Embassy in Kuwait on Sunday and Monday amid Iranian airstrikes in Kuwait. However, sources did not confirm whether the embassy was the intended target.
In a security alert issued Monday, the US Embassy warned that "threats from missile and drone (UAV) attacks remain over Kuwaiti airspace."
The alert advised, “Do not come to the embassy. Take shelter in the lowest floor of your residence, stay away from windows, and do not go outside.” It also stated that embassy personnel were sheltering in place.
“Due to ongoing regional tensions, the US Embassy in Kuwait has canceled all appointments for US visa and American citizen services until further notice,” the embassy announced.
