Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tehran, Heavily Damaged

Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Tehran, Iran, has suffered heavy damage from military attacks by the United States and Israel, according to reports from Iran's semi-official news agency.

Mehr News Agency reported that Golestan Palace, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, sustained significant damage following attacks by the US and Israel in Iran.

However, the report noted that the palace's renowned Glass Throne Room, along with ancient artifacts and museum exhibits, had been moved in advance to a secure vault following protests in January and the 12-day war in June 2025.

The damage to Golestan Palace occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, after the US and Israel launched military strikes on targets in Iran, impacting both security and cultural heritage.

There are currently no official details regarding the extent of damage to the palace's main structures, with relevant authorities expected to conduct further assessments in the near future.

Golestan Palace is a key symbol of Iranian history, having served as a center of power since the Qajar dynasty, following the relocation of the capital to Tehran, and continuing as the royal residence and administrative center during the Pahlavi dynasty.

The site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its architectural and decorative art value, as well as its historical significance reflecting the development of modern Iran.
