Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tehran, Iran, has suffered severe damage due to military attacks by the United States and Israel, according to reports from Iranian semi-official news agencies.
The Mehr News Agency reported that Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sustained heavy damage following attacks by the US and Israel in Iran.
However, the report noted that the palace's famed Mirror Throne room, along with ancient artifacts and museum exhibits, had been preemptively moved to a secure vault after protests in January and during the 12-day war in June 2025.
The damage to Golestan Palace occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, after the US and Israel launched military strikes targeting locations in Iran, impacting both security and cultural heritage.
Currently, there are no official details regarding the extent of damage to the palace's main structures, with relevant authorities expected to conduct further assessments in the near future.
Golestan Palace is one of the key symbols of Iranian history, having served as a center of power since the Qajar dynasty when the capital was moved to Tehran, and continuing as the royal residence and administrative center during the Pahlavi dynasty.
The site has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its architectural value, decorative arts, and historical significance reflecting the development of the modern Iranian state.
