Donald Trump posted that Iran's military and leadership have been destroyed, and Tehran wants to negotiate, but he insists it is already too late.
On 3 Mar 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the Iranian government is trying to negotiate with the U.S. while the American military continues its attacks on Iran. However, Trump signaled that the chance for negotiations has already passed.
“Their air defense systems, air force, navy, and leadership have been completely destroyed. They want to negotiate, and I replied, ‘It's too late!’” Trump stated in his Truth Social post.
Trump's latest message marks a reversal from the previous weekend when the U.S. leader told the media that Iran's new leadership wanted to talk to his administration and that he planned to do so.
“They want to negotiate, and I agreed to talk to them. So, I will talk to them,” Trump said on Sunday (1 Mar). “But they should have done this sooner.”
Before the U.S. and Israel launched their attacks on Iran on Saturday (28 Feb), the two countries and Iran had held three rounds of talks, with the latest ending on Friday, 27 Feb, but with no significant progress.
