Iran Strikes Three Amazon Data Centers in the Middle East, Causing Severe Business Damage

Iran deployed drones to strike three large Amazon data centers in the Middle East, causing severe damage to business confidence and the data storage facilities themselves.

On 3 March, Iran launched drone attacks on three key Amazon data centers that are rapidly expanding in the Middle East region, representing critical business infrastructure in the area.

Iran targeted two major data centers in the heart of the United Arab Emirates and one important center in Bahrain, causing extensive damage. Amazon officials reported severe structural damage to the buildings, electrical systems inside were nonfunctional, and some sites experienced fires following the attacks.

The damage has significantly undermined confidence in Amazon's data center business, as these attacks risk potential data loss. Most businesses relying on Amazon’s services include governments, universities, and large enterprises.

Amazon's IT officials stated that no data was lost during the incident because Amazon operates nearby data centers capable of securely managing all information. However, if multiple centers were attacked simultaneously, it could pose a serious problem in the future.

Amazon also reassured customers by explaining that all its data centers have backup power, water, and internet connectivity to use in emergencies. Therefore, they can securely protect important customer data and promptly transfer it to other centers as needed.

They added that physical security is crucial during such unrest, and Amazon maintains strong security systems. They emphasized transparency in their operations and their commitment to restoring customer confidence.
