NATO issued a statement condemning Iran's indiscriminate attacks after missile strikes targeted Turkey but were intercepted. NATO confirmed it stands firmly alongside all its allies, including Turkey.
On 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Allison Hart, spokesperson for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), released a statement condemning Iran following multiple missile strikes against Turkey in recent days, which NATO's air defense systems successfully intercepted.
“We condemn Iran's targeting of Turkey. NATO stands firmly alongside all its allies, including Turkey, as Iran continues indiscriminate attacks across the region,” Hart said. “Our deterrence and defense remain strong in all dimensions, including air and missile defense.”
Previously, Iran launched several missile attacks on Turkey, but all were destroyed by NATO’s air and missile defense systems deployed in the eastern Mediterranean.
This incident marks the first time Turkey, a NATO member sharing a border with parts of Iran, has been drawn into the expanding regional conflict.
The Turkish Defense Ministry issued a warning after the attacks, stating, “We urge all parties to refrain from actions that could escalate regional tensions. In this context, we will continue consultations with NATO and our other allies.” The ministry also confirmed there were no casualties or injuries from the incident.
“We will take all necessary measures to decisively and unwaveringly protect our territory and airspace. We warn all parties that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile acts against our country,” the Defense Ministry added.
Earlier, senior Turkish officials released two additional statements on the incident but did not invoke NATO Charter Article 4, which requires allies to consult when a member’s territorial integrity, political independence, or security is threatened.
