China Calls on U.S., Israel, and Iran to Cease Fighting to Prevent Economic Crisis

China has called on Iran, the U.S., and Israel to immediately halt fighting to prevent severe damage to global economic growth.

On Wednesday, 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Lin Jian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted on X that the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint partly controlled by Iran, is a vital trade route for goods and energy. Maintaining security and stability in the region is a shared interest of the international community.

"China urges all involved parties (Iran, the U.S., Israel) to immediately cease military operations, avoid further escalation of tensions, and prevent the regional turmoil from causing greater harm to global economic growth," Lin stated.

About half of China's crude oil imports and 29% of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Qatar, one of the world's largest gas producers, announced on Wednesday that its LNG exports have completely halted.

Additionally, over 20% of the world’s oil supply moves through this strait, which has been severely impacted since the outbreak of conflict with Iran last Saturday. Iran has threatened to attack any ships passing through, significantly reducing maritime traffic.
