Iran's president told neighboring countries that Iran has no choice but to launch attacks in response to strikes by the US and Israel amid the ongoing heated conflict in the Middle East.
On 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian posted on X to tell neighboring Gulf countries that they “have no other choice” but to respond to attacks from the United States and Israel.
Pezeshkian added that Iran had tried its best “with your help” to avoid war, but attacks from the US and Israel have left Iran “no choice but to defend itself.”
The Iranian leader also emphasized that he respects the sovereignty of neighboring countries and believes peace in the region “must be guaranteed by the countries within the region themselves.”
Since the US and Israel launched operations against Iran on 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Iran has retaliated by firing hundreds of missiles and drones at neighboring Arab countries, targeting US bases as well as civilian infrastructure and energy facilities in Gulf states such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman.
Qatar reported on Wednesday that Iran fired 2 cruise missiles and sent 10 drones in an attack at dawn, but Qatar’s air force and navy successfully intercepted all threats.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated on X that on 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7 they intercepted 3 missiles and 121 drones, while 8 drones crashed within their territory. However, the UAE Foreign Ministry said their country has been attacked over a thousand times by Iran since the war broke out on Saturday, 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense reported an attempted attack on the Ras Tanura oil refinery. Preliminary assessments indicate it involved one drone and caused no damage.
