Putin Calls Iranian President Urging Immediate End to Middle East Conflict

Vladimir Putin called Masoud Pezeshkian to express condolences over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many civilians caused by US-Israeli attacks, stressing the need to end hostilities and resume political negotiations.

On 6 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Russian presidential office revealed that President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on 6 Mar, urging Russia's stance for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East.

During the conversation, Putin expressed sorrow over the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his family, key military and political figures, as well as numerous civilians killed in US and Israeli attacks.

The Russian leader reiterated that the conflict must end immediately, emphasizing that military force should not be used to resolve issues concerning Iran or the Middle East situation, and called for all parties to swiftly return to political and diplomatic processes.

President Pezeshkian thanked Russia for supporting the Iranian people in defending the country's sovereignty and independence, briefing Putin on the latest war developments. Both sides agreed to maintain coordination through various channels amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
