The U.S. approved the sale of 12,000 1,000-pound multi-purpose bombs to Israel without congressional approval, citing an emergency situation.
CNN reported on 7 Mar 2026 that the Trump administration bypassed the congressional process to approve the immediate sale of 12,000 BLU-110A/B 1,000-pound multi-purpose bombs to Israel, valued at over $151 million, citing an emergency.
According to a U.S. State Department announcement, “Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided and provided detailed reasoning that an emergency situation exists requiring the immediate sale of these defense articles and services to the government of Israel, in the interest of U.S. national security, thereby suspending the congressional notification requirements under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act.”
“This proposed sale will enhance Israel’s ability to address current and future threats, strengthen homeland defense, and serve as a deterrent against regional threats,” the announcement issued on Friday (6 Mar) added.
Besides the bombs, the weapons sale package includes engineering support, transportation, technical assistance from the U.S. government and contractors, as well as other related logistics and program support components.
This expedited sale comes as Israel and the U.S. continue their ongoing conflict with Iran. Last Saturday, President Donald Trump signaled a new and intense wave of attacks, stating, “Today, Iran will be hit very hard!”
“Areas and groups not previously considered targets are now seriously being considered for complete destruction and certain death due to Iran’s bad behavior,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday morning.
