U.S. officials are rapidly investigating suspicious objects found in multiple locations, ranging from New York City to an airport in Missouri, amid growing security concerns over potential threats.
Police in New York City responded to a report of a "suspicious object" inside a vehicle in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan on Sunday, leading to road closures and evacuation of some nearby buildings.
New York Police stated on social media that officers found a suspicious object inside a vehicle parked on East End Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets. An explosive ordnance disposal unit was dispatched to the scene to inspect and safely remove the object.
This incident occurred just one day after a homemade bomb was thrown at a group of right-wing protesters during an anti-Islam demonstration in the same area.
The protest, titled "Stop the Islamic Takeover of New York City," was led by right-wing activist Jake Lang in front of New York City Mayor Sohran Mamdani's residence, also known as Gracie Mansion.
Clashes between protesters and counter-protesters led authorities to detain at least two suspects.
Meanwhile, at Kansas City International Airport in Missouri, officials ordered the evacuation of all passengers from the terminal on Sunday afternoon following reports of a security threat.
The Kansas City Aviation Department reported that the alert came at approximately 11:15 a.m. local time, prompting immediate evacuation of the entire terminal. Flights landing during that time were instructed to hold on taxiways.
The FBI stated that agents are working alongside airport personnel and law enforcement to assess the credibility of the threat.
A 29-year-old passenger waiting for a flight to Texas recounted seeing numerous police officers and canine units enter the terminal before airport officials announced an immediate evacuation.
Approximately 2,000 passengers were escorted to the tarmac amid heightened security measures. No damage or injuries have been reported.
