The Lebanese Prime Minister has confirmed that his government is ready to return to the negotiating table with Israel after the Israeli military intensified its attacks on Lebanon, targeting the Hezbollah group.
On Monday, 9 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told the media that his government is prepared to resume negotiations with Israel following Israel’s further escalation of attacks on Lebanon since the United States and the Israeli government began striking Iran on 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7.
Salam told the French-language newspaper L’Orient–Le Jour that Israel has yet to accept Lebanon’s proposal to revive talks. "However, we remain open to discussions on all agendas, in all formats, and at all venues to reach those agreements," he said.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Jausef Aoun posted on X, reaffirming that the government is "fully ready" for talks to "curb the dangers from Israel’s escalation of violence," and claimed the government has been assured that Israel will not attack Beirut airport or the roads leading to it.
Earlier, the Israeli military launched new attacks on parts of Lebanon last week after the Hezbollah armed group fired rockets into Israel in a show of support for Iran.
Although Lebanon’s legislature has banned Hezbollah’s military activities and called for the armed group to disarm, Salam said the government does not want to confront this Iran-backed force.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated that Israeli attacks since 2 Mar 2026 GMT+7 have resulted in 394 deaths in Lebanon, including 83 children.
