A passenger bus caught fire violently in Switzerland, resulting in at least 6 fatalities and 5 injuries. Police indicated it may have been deliberately set, though it remains unconfirmed whether it is related to terrorism.
On 11 March 2026, a bus fire occurred on a main road in the town of Kerzers, in the canton of Fribourg, located about 20 kilometers west of Bern. The incident happened around 18:25 local time, causing at least 6 deaths and injuring 5 others, including 3 in critical condition.
Video footage shared on social media showed flames shooting several meters from the bus windows, with thick black smoke rising into the sky. The burned bus was reduced to its frame. Officials reported that upon emergency responders' arrival, the bus was fully engulfed in flames. They quickly moved to assist victims, control the fire, and establish a safety perimeter around the area.
Police revealed they are currently considering the possibility that the fire was human-caused and deliberate. However, they have not confirmed any connection to terrorism. A criminal investigation is ongoing to determine the true cause of this tragedy.
