Cargo Ship Fired Upon and Catches Fire in Strait of Hormuz Crew Evacuates, Mariners Warned to Exercise Caution

A cargo ship was hit by unidentified gunfire causing a fire in the middle of the Strait of Hormuz. The crew had to evacuate the vessel, while the UK's maritime safety agency warned all ships to navigate with caution.

A cargo ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after being struck by an unknown projectile resembling a bullet from an unidentified source, forcing the crew to evacuate urgently.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the ship requested assistance following the fire, and the crew was evacuating the ship for their safety.

Reports state the incident occurred about 11 nautical miles north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula.

UKMTO also issued a warning for vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and to immediately report any suspicious incidents.

Meanwhile, Oman's Coast Guard has not yet made an official comment regarding this event.

Earlier the same day, UKMTO noted that another vessel was damaged after being struck by a similar projectile near the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

This incident comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, drawing close attention to the security of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit corridor.
