Iran Admits to Attacking Thai Ship Mayuree Naree for Illegally Passing Through Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian military has admitted to attacking the cargo ship “Mayuree Naree,” which flies the Thai flag, while it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that the Thai vessel ignored warnings and attempted to illegally transit the strait.

The semi-official Iranian news agency Fars reported on 11 Mar 2026 that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement saying that today the Iranian military attacked two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, including the Thai-flagged cargo ship “Mayuree Naree.”

The IRGC stated that the Mayuree Naree was fired upon after it “ignored warnings and attempted to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz.”

In addition, they attacked another cargo ship, the Liberian-flagged “Express Rome,” by launching a missile this morning after it disregarded warnings from the IRGC navy.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), since the US and Israel began attacking Iran and Iran retaliated on 28 Feb, there have been at least 13 attacks on ships in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman, with three incidents occurring on Wednesday (11 Mar) alone.

Earlier the same day, a spokesperson for Iran's “Khatam al-Anbiya” military headquarters declared that Iran will not allow a single drop of oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for the benefit of the United States, Zionists, or their allies.

“Any ship or oil cargo belonging to the United States, the Israeli government, or hostile allies will be considered a legitimate target,” the statement said. “We will carry out repeated attacks until you are suitably punished and regret your actions.”
