Donald Trump claimed that Iran failed to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz because the United States destroyed many Iranian vessels, and he encouraged cargo ships to continue passing through the strait.
On 11 Mar 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told local reporters in the U.S. that he did not believe Iran succeeded in laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the U.S. had destroyed "almost all" of Iran’s mine-laying ships.
"We dealt with all their mine-laying ships in one night," Trump said, noting that as many as 60 Iranian vessels might have been attacked. "Their navy has been almost completely destroyed."
Additionally, Trump supported oil tankers continuing to travel through the Strait of Hormuz, assuring that the route was safe despite attacks on three ships there earlier that morning. Iran claimed responsibility for attacking at least two of those ships.
"I think they should continue to use that strait," Trump said.
