A container ship was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz again, marking the sixth vessel targeted within two days amid escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf.
Maritime security in the Persian Gulf has intensified after reports emerged that a container ship was struck by an unidentified object causing a minor fire while sailing near the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the sixth ship attacked within just two days.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), responsible for maritime security in the region, reported that the incident occurred early Thursday morning when the container ship was hit by an unknown object, resulting in a small fire onboard.
The incident took place about 35 nautical miles from Jebel Ali port, a major harbor near Dubai.
Officials stated that a detailed damage assessment is difficult due to the incident occurring at night but confirmed that all crew members are safe.
This marks the sixth attack on vessels within just two days in the Persian Gulf region, amid an environment where Iran has escalated assaults on energy and transportation targets including oil tankers, cargo ships, and energy infrastructure.
Just hours earlier, reports indicated that two foreign oil tankers were attacked in Iraqi waters, causing fires. At least one person was killed, and authorities rescued 38 crew members.
Additionally, on Wednesday morning, a large Thai cargo ship was attacked, resulting in a fire that forced a full crew evacuation. On the same day, two other ships reportedly suffered attacks in the same area, raising concerns about the safety of energy transport and maritime trade in the Middle East.
