Several Iranian media outlets claim that the wife of the late former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is still alive, and that earlier reports of her death were the result of an error.
On 12 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Fars News Agency and Nournews, both closely affiliated with the Iranian government, denied reports claiming that the wife of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's deceased former Supreme Leader, died from wounds sustained during a U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran.
Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, was killed on 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7 during a joint airstrike by the U.S. and Israel at his residence in Tehran, with reports stating that his wife also died in the attack.
However, Fars News Agency stated that the initial reports about the death of Mrs. Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh were untrue and sought to correct what it described as “misinformation” that spread following the leader’s assassination.
Meanwhile, Nournews, which is linked to Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said, “The wife of the martyred revolutionary leader is alive, and the earlier reports of her martyrdom are incorrect.”
Nevertheless, these media outlets did not provide further details about her condition or explain the discrepancies in earlier reports.
Earlier this month, other Iranian media had reported that Mrs. Bagherzadeh died from injuries sustained in the attack that killed her husband. ISNA news agency reported that she fell into a coma after the strike and subsequently passed away.
