Fujairah port, the United Arab Emirates’ major crude oil transport hub, was attacked by drones causing a severe fire, following Iran’s declaration that it would target UAE ports in retaliation for the U.S. strikes on Kharg Island.
On 14 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Fujairah port, a major oil hub in the UAE, was attacked by drones resulting in a fierce fire that sent thick black smoke into the sky, just one day after the U.S. attacked Kharg Island, which hosts Iran’s crude oil export infrastructure.
Local media in Fujairah reported that the fire was triggered when debris from intercepted drones fell in the area. However, no injuries have been reported from the incident.
Fujairah port handles hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil daily and is located near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil passes, before the Middle East conflict erupted on 28 Feb and Iran ordered the closure of the strait.
Reuters and Bloomberg cited sources revealing that some crude oil loading operations in Fujairah were temporarily halted following the drone attack and resulting fire, although Fujairah’s media office statements did not mention any disruption in oil handling activities.
This incident occurred just one day after the U.S. carried out strikes on Kharg Island, Iran’s main crude oil export base, with Iranian officials previously warning of possible retaliation targeting ports and warehouses in the UAE.
