Drone Attacks U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, Causing Explosions for Second Consecutive Day

A drone attack targeted the U.S. Embassy building in Baghdad, Iraq, amid ongoing attacks involving both rockets and drones.

On 18 March 2026, foreign news agencies reported citing security sources that the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad was targeted by a drone attack in the early hours of Wednesday, 18 March local time. Locals reported hearing explosions.

Security officials stated that a drone directly struck the embassy, although the extent of damage remains unclear. Another source reported that a drone crashed near the embassy's security fence.

This incident occurred just hours after previous drone and rocket attacks targeted the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Additionally, reports indicated that air defense systems intercepted rocket attacks aimed at the embassy earlier. Meanwhile, another drone caused a fire at a luxury hotel within the Green Zone, a highly secure area housing embassies and foreign diplomats' residences in Baghdad.

Earlier in the early morning of Tuesday, drone and rocket attacks struck the Iraqi capital. Another attack at a different location resulted in at least four deaths inside a residence believed to be that of an Iranian advisor. Security officials noted that the ongoing violence is increasingly drawing Iraq deeper into Middle Eastern conflicts.
