The US Intelligence Director revealed that America and Israel have "different" objectives in waging war against Iran and does not know whether Israel will support making a deal with Iran.
On 18 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Talsi Gabbard, Director of the US National Intelligence Agency (DNI), said that the US and Israel have "different" goals in waging war against Iran, adding she is uncertain whether Israel supports making a deal with Iran.
"We can see from various operations that the Israeli government focuses on destroying the capabilities of Iran's leaders and eliminating several members, starting with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, and they continue to concentrate on that effort," Gabbard said during a briefing to the House Intelligence Committee.
Gabbard also said that President Donald Trump stated his goal was to destroy Iran's missile firing capabilities, missile production capacity, and navy, especially the IRGC Navy and its mine-laying capabilities.
The DNI director said she "does not know Israel's position" regarding making a deal with Iran and declined to comment on whether she agrees that Israel decided to attack Iran's energy infrastructure regardless of President Trump's stance.
"I am not aware of their internal discussions or calculations regarding this or other attacks," Gabbard said. "We are not involved in operational activities but regularly prepare intelligence assessment reports on ongoing events every day."
