Foreign Minister Discusses with Iranian Ambassador, Emphasizes Aid for Mayurinari Crew and Permission for Thai Ships to Pass Hormuz Strait

The Foreign Minister held discussions with the Iranian Ambassador, reiterating Thailand's request for aid to the three Thai crew members aboard the “Mayurinari” and seeking permission for Thai commercial vessels to pass through the Hormuz Strait.

On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, the Foreign Minister, met with Mr. Nosereddin Heydari, the Iranian Ambassador to Thailand, to reaffirm Thailand's request for assistance to the three Thai crew members on the “Mayurinari.” The discussion especially focused on support for the humanitarian mission led by the Iranian Navy and on ensuring safe passage for Thai commercial ships through the Hormuz Strait.

The Iranian Ambassador stated that he had informed the Iranian government of Thailand’s requests. In principle, Iran is willing to provide assistance on both matters and is ready to support the mission to aid the Thai crew. Regarding the passage of Thai commercial vessels through the Hormuz Strait, which was jointly discussed by the two ministers, the Ambassador agreed that Thailand, as a friendly country, should be granted permission to navigate the strait. He also committed to following up on a prompt response.

Additionally, the Foreign Minister reiterated Thailand’s stance calling for all involved parties to return to negotiations and diplomacy. The Ambassador requested that Thailand and ASEAN countries engage with the conflicting parties to promptly halt attacks on Iran.
