Delta Air Lines Passenger Plane Hits Turbulence, Multiple Passengers and Crew Injured

A Delta Air Lines passenger plane encountered turbulence while flying from Los Angeles, USA, to Sydney Airport, Australia, resulting in multiple passenger injuries.

On 20 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the BBC reported that Delta Air Lines Flight 41 experienced turbulence during its journey from Los Angeles, USA, to Sydney Airport, Australia, on the morning of Friday, 20 Mar.

A Delta spokesperson said the Airbus A350, carrying 245 passengers and 15 crew members, landed safely despite sudden shaking just before touching down. New South Wales ambulance services assessed five injured individuals and transported three to hospital with minor injuries such as back and head pain, while four crew members were also hurt by the impact.

Reports indicate emergency personnel were notified only three minutes before landing and were prepared to receive the flight on the runway.

Turbulence continues to occur regularly during flights, though severe cases are rare. It is estimated that around 5,000 severe turbulence events happen annually worldwide among over 35 million flights. Experts warn that climate change is altering wind patterns and atmospheric temperatures, likely increasing the frequency and severity of turbulence in the future.
