Hun Manet Implements Urgent Measures to Cut Taxes and Support Fuel Prices Amid Energy Crisis

Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, revealed that the government has issued urgent measures to ease the cost-of-living impact on the public after fighting in the Middle East caused global oil prices to rise sharply.

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia stated that the government has continuously intervened in oil pricing to reduce the financial burden on citizens. Previous measures included lowering fuel prices by 6.5 US cents per liter, an additional 1 cent per liter cut if global gasoline prices exceed $90 per barrel and diesel exceeds $100 per barrel, along with a 0% import tax on oil.

Most recently, on 20 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Cambodian government introduced additional measures as global oil prices continued to rise. These included further reductions in gasoline and diesel prices, cutting the special diesel discount from 4% to 0%, and reducing oil fees from 10% to 4%. The government will absorb a 6% compensation difference.

The Cambodian government emphasized that relevant agencies are closely monitoring global oil prices, assessing the impact of the energy crisis, and are ready to implement additional measures immediately if the situation remains volatile or worsens.
