Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of attacking the Natanz nuclear facility again, calling it a violation of treaties and international law, and the incident a breach of agreements and international regulations related to nuclear safety and security.
On 21 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) revealed that the Natanz nuclear facility, located in central Iran, was targeted once more by an attack from the US and Israel earlier this morning.
In a statement released through various Iranian media outlets, the AEOI said it had conducted technical and expert assessments for radioactive contamination and found no radiation leaks inside the facility, nor any danger to residents in the surrounding area.
The AEOI also condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and other regulations related to nuclear safety and security.
Previously, the AEOI reported that the Natanz facility had been attacked on 1 Mar and that no radioactive contamination was detected then either.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN that the military had no knowledge of the reported attack on the facility.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Saturday that it is investigating these reports and added that there has been "no increase in radiation levels in areas outside the facility."
Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the United Nations nuclear watchdog, reiterated calls for all parties to exercise restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.
Natanz is one of three nuclear sites bombed by the US during the 12-day war in June 2025 GMT+7, along with the Fordo and Isfahan facilities. At that time, then-President Donald Trump claimed the attacks had completely destroyed Iran’s nuclear program.
