Iran fired missiles at two Israeli cities, injuring more than 80 people. Analysts believe one missile targeted Israel's nuclear research center, which is located not far from the city.
On 21 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reported that missiles landing in the southern city of Dimona caused injuries to 47 people, mostly from shrapnel. Among the injured were a critically wounded 10-year-old boy and a 30-year-old woman hurt by glass fragments.
Israeli authorities said they are urgently investigating how Iranian missiles bypassed the air defense system to strike the southern city of Dimona, causing these injuries.
Analysts suggest Iran targeted Dimona aiming at the Negev nuclear research center, located just 13 km from the city. This site is believed to house Israel’s undeclared nuclear weapons.
Iran has confirmed responsibility for the attack, claiming it was retaliation for earlier airstrikes by the US and Israel targeting their Natanz nuclear facility.
Additionally, Iran fired missiles at the southern Israeli city of Arad. MDA reported 33 people were hospitalized there, including 4 seriously injured, 12 with moderate injuries, and 17 with minor wounds. Rescue teams continue to search for more injured victims.
