Iran has denied Donald Trump's claim that negotiations are taking place between Iran and the United States to resolve the Middle East situation, stating that Trump's assertion is simply aimed at lowering oil prices.
Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on 23 Mar 2026, citing the Foreign Ministry, denying any negotiations between Iran and the U.S. Meanwhile, Donald Trump had previously stated otherwise. Iran responded by saying Trump's claims are merely an attempt to lower energy prices and buy time to prepare military plans.
Mehr added that Iran has received proposals from regional countries to "reduce tensions," but Iran's answer has always been clear: "We are not the party that started this war, and all requests should be directed to Washington."
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the U.S. and Iran have had very good negotiations in recent days to resolve the Middle East situation. He therefore ordered the military to delay attacks on Iran's power plants and energy infrastructure for five days while talks continue.
