The President of the European Commission called on all parties involved in the Iran conflict to swiftly come to the negotiating table to end the fighting, amid concerns over the worsening impact on global energy and the world economy.
In a press conference on Tuesday alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, described the situation as critical and stressed the urgent need for a negotiated solution.
She stated, "It is time to enter negotiations and end hostilities in Iran. The global energy situation is in crisis. We are all continuously affected — from gas and oil prices to businesses and society."
The EU executive leader also emphasized that a diplomatic resolution is paramount to stop the ongoing violence in the Middle East.
Additionally, she condemned Iran's attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and ships in the Gulf, calling them unacceptable.
This stance comes as the Middle East conflict persists, continuing to disrupt global energy markets, especially causing volatile oil and gas prices, which impact economies worldwide.
Analysts warn that if the situation remains unresolved, energy risks and rising living costs globally may intensify, pressuring world leaders to urgently seek a negotiated settlement.
