Trump Asserts US Is Talking to the Right People, Claims Iran Offers Big Prize

Donald Trump confirmed that the US negotiation team is talking to the right people and claimed that Iran has given the US a "big prize" related to oil, gas, and the Strait of Hormuz, but did not disclose details.

On 24 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, the US president, updated the situation in the Middle East conflict, including talks with Iran, during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Secretary of Homeland Security at the White House.

Trump reiterated his previous claim that Iran no longer has a navy, leadership, or even radar systems, calling the US operation a "tremendous success."

Regarding peace talks, Trump stated, "We are talking to the right people, and they want to make a deal at all costs," adding that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were involved in the discussions.

Previously, Iranian media denied Trump’s claim that negotiations were underway between Iranian officials and the US, accusing Trump of making such statements merely to lower oil prices.

The US president also claimed that the Iranian government has agreed never to possess nuclear weapons, a statement he has repeated several times during this conflict.

When asked which Iranians his team is negotiating with, Trump replied, "We killed all their leaders; then they met to choose new ones, and we killed them too... Now we have a new group... Let's see how they behave next."

Trump added that US and Israeli attacks have led to a "regime change," but he concluded with a warning: "I don't trust anyone."

Trump told reporters that Iran’s negotiation team had given the US a "very significant prize" related to oil and gas, adding that the gift concerned the Strait of Hormuz, but he provided no further details.

When asked for further comment on the Gulf Arab states’ role in the Iran war, Trump said the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was "excellent" and described Qatar as "also great."

Asked about the chances of a successful peace deal with Iran, Trump said, "This war has already been won." However, he offered almost no details on how the war would actually end.
