Iran's Foreign Minister revealed that messages have been exchanged with the U.S. but emphasized this is not a negotiation, mocking the U.S. for admitting failure after initially demanding Iran's unconditional surrender.
On 25 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, questioned the U.S. call for negotiations, saying Washington's change of stance amounts to admitting failure after previously demanding Iran "surrender unconditionally."
Araghchi added that in recent days, the U.S. sent multiple messages to Tehran through what he called “friendly countries,” but stressed that this communication does not constitute negotiations.
“Didn’t the Americans say ‘surrender unconditionally’?” Araghchi said in a televised interview on the government IRIB network Wednesday. “So why are they now talking about negotiations?”
He added, “The fact that they are now talking about negotiations is a direct admission of defeat,” and emphasized, “Sending messages and us responding with warnings or stating our position is not called negotiation or discussion; it is a ‘message exchange.’”
“These messages include various proposals that have been forwarded to senior authorities, and if any position needs to be set, they will announce it themselves,” Araghchi said.
The White House stated that talks with Iran are continuing rapidly, even though Tehran has not yet responded to the 15-point plan to immediately end the conflict.
