White House Confirms Trump’s Visit to Beijing on 14-15 May, Prepares to Welcome Xi Jinping’s U.S. Visit Later This Year

The White House confirmed that Trump will travel to China from 14-15 May, a postponement from late March due to the unresolved Iran conflict. It also announced plans to welcome Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States later this year.

On 26 March 2025 GMT+7, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to visit Beijing, China, from 14-15 May to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The original schedule was postponed from late March due to the prolonged Iran war situation.

The White House spokesperson stated that the rescheduling was not conditional on ending the war, but because the U.S. leader needed to remain to manage the conflict during a critical time. Additionally, it was noted that the Chinese president also plans to visit Washington, D.C. later this year.

It is expected that discussions between the U.S. and Chinese leaders will cover both the Iran war and trade tensions between the two countries. Previously, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is impacting global energy trade and security. China has called on all parties to end fighting swiftly. Meanwhile, Trump has asked China to help reopen the shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, but China has not yet responded to the U.S. request.
