The Israeli military revealed it killed a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon as Israeli forces expand their attacks in southern Lebanon.
On 26 Mar 2026, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement that the Air Force struck and killed Hassan Mohammed Bashir, a senior Hezbollah commander in the Hajir area of Lebanon, on Wednesday (25 Mar).
Israel has continued its military attacks in Lebanon since 2 March, following missile launches by Hezbollah into Israel, in retaliation for US and Israeli attacks on Iran that resulted in casualties.
In recent days, the Israeli military has increasingly expanded attacks in southern Lebanon to create a "buffer zone" to push Hezbollah armed groups away from the border and to protect Israeli communities.
In other Middle East developments, Israeli forces have also attacked areas in Kermanshah province in western Iran, including the city of Dezful in the south.
The Israeli military stated that these operations aim to "destroy weapons depots and guided missile launch bases, as well as air defense systems," adding that the strikes on Iranian missile stockpiles intend to "reduce the range of attacks targeting Israeli civilians."
