
The leaders of North Korea and Belarus met in Pyongyang to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement and reaffirm their shared stance against Western pressure.
On 26 March 2026, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un welcomed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Pyongyang for a two-day official visit, including high-level talks and the signing of a friendship and cooperation treaty between the two countries. In addition to the main treaty, both sides signed agreements and memorandums of understanding in various areas such as education, public health, and agriculture.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, the two leaders discussed enhancing high-level cooperation, exchanging visits, and sharing views on international and regional issues of mutual interest. Kim Jong-un expressed unity and full support for Belarus while criticizing pressure from Western countries. Lukashenko stated that both nations share aligned positions on international matters.
Belarusian authorities stated that the agreement represents a crucial foundation for their relationship and signals that cooperation between the two countries is entering a new phase. Lukashenko acknowledged that past cooperation had been limited but affirmed that relations have now significantly developed.
During the visit, the leaders exchanged gifts: Kim presented Lukashenko with a sword and a specially patterned vase, while Lukashenko gave Kim an assault rifle manufactured in Belarus. Additionally, the North Korean leader hosted an ice skating performance and a welcoming banquet before personally accompanying Lukashenko to Pyongyang airport.
