Ukraine and Qatar have signed a joint defense agreement to promote cooperation in various areas, including expertise in missile defense and unmanned aerial vehicle systems.
On 28 Mar 2026, Ukraine signed a new defense agreement with Qatar, similar to the one recently signed with Saudi Arabia last Friday, while Gulf countries are seeking to benefit from Ukraine's expertise in drone warfare.
A statement from Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement covers “cooperation in technology, joint project development, defense investment, and the exchange of expertise in missile defense and unmanned aerial systems.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on the X platform after meeting with Qatari representatives, saying, “We discussed ways to strengthen life protection in both countries and reached a mutually beneficial defense alliance agreement for at least 10 years.”
In recent days, Zelensky has also visited Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to share Ukraine's knowledge in intercepting the Shahed drone, designed by Iran and produced by Russia, a skill Ukraine has mastered during its four years of war with Russia.
These drones, which have long been used to attack Ukraine, are currently being employed by Iran to target neighboring Gulf countries.
