Paris Police Arrest Suspect Attempting to Bomb Bank of America Building

Paris police successfully thwarted a bombing attempt outside the Bank of America by arresting a man as he tried to detonate a bomb.

AFP news agency reported, citing officials and multiple sources, that French police prevented an attempted bombing outside the U.S. bank in Paris early Saturday morning (28 Mar 2026), capturing a man as he tried to ignite an improvised explosive device.

The incident occurred around 03:30 local time in front of the Bank of America building in the 8th arrondissement, an upscale area just a few blocks from the Champs-Élysées.

A source stated that police immediately charged the man after he placed the bomb, which contained 5 liters of liquid believed to be fuel, along with a detonator.

Preliminary examination found the detonator assembly included 650 grams of explosives; all evidence has been sent to the Paris police forensic laboratory for detailed analysis.

The French anti-terrorism prosecutor's office told AFP that it has taken over the investigation and confirmed the suspect is now in police custody.

The office said it has opened an investigation against the suspect for "attempted damage by fire or other dangerous means related to terrorism" and "conspiracy to commit a terrorist crime."

Additionally, the prosecutor's office informed AFP that both the Paris judicial police and France’s domestic intelligence agency (DGSI) are involved in the investigation.
