Pakistan hosted a four-party meeting involving Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan to find a solution to the Middle East war crisis. The meeting concluded one day earlier than planned.
On 29 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the four-party meeting attended by foreign ministers from Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, ended one day ahead of schedule, with a joint statement expected to follow.
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, met with Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, after the four-party meeting. The Prime Minister's office stated that Sharif “expressed deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s restraint amid the current crisis.”
Additionally, Sharif “assured” the Saudi Foreign Minister that “Pakistan will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia.”
Pakistan, a nuclear power in South Asia, signed a defense treaty with Saudi Arabia last year. Although Pakistan seeks to play a peacekeeping role between the US and Iran, there are concerns it could be drawn into Middle East conflicts if Saudi Arabia decides to enter a war against Iran.
The Saudi Foreign Minister shared “the latest Saudi perspective on the regional situation,” and both countries agreed to “coordinate their positions closely to maintain peace and security in the region.”
Participants in the meeting included Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, the National Security Advisor, and Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, Director of Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
Earlier, CNN reported that Lieutenant General Malik was among Pakistani officials engaged in talks with US representatives Steve Whitcraft and Jared Kushner to mediate the situation in Iran.
Also, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister during the visit.
