Donald Trump said this idea is one of the options available to the U.S., stating, "Perhaps we might seize Kharg Island, or perhaps not. We have many options," emphasizing that if carried out, the U.S. might need to maintain a military presence in the area for some time.
When asked about Iran's defense capabilities on the island, Trump commented that Iran might not have strong defenses there and that the U.S. could easily seize it.
These remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with reports that the U.S. has deployed approximately 3,500 additional troops to the region amid concerns that Iran might retaliate against U.S. bases or forces.
However, Trump also revealed that indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, with Pakistan acting as a mediator, are progressing well, and a deal could happen fairly soon, although it remains unconfirmed whether a ceasefire agreement will be reached in the near future.
