Donald Trump threatened to completely destroy Iran's energy sources and power plants if Iran cannot reach an agreement with the United States and refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz.
On 30 Mar 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, threatening that if Iran fails to reach an agreement with the United States and refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. will end its military operations in the region by “blowing up and destroying” power plants and oil wells in the country.
“The United States is seriously negotiating with a 'new, more reasonable regime' to end our military operations in Iran. Progress has been made, but if for any reason an agreement cannot be reached soon (which is likely), and if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately for 'trade,' we will conclude our 'wonderful visit' to Iran by blowing up and destroying power plants, oil wells, and Qeshm Island (possibly including all desalination plants!), which we have deliberately left untouched until now.”
This threat came after Trump said the U.S. might seize Iranian oil during an interview with the Financial Times the previous night.
Trump told the Financial Times, “The option I prefer is to seize the oil,” as he considered whether to seize Qeshm Island, Iran's main fuel export hub.
Global oil prices surged Monday morning, with Brent crude climbing above $116 per barrel following Donald Trump's remarks.
