Popular platform Grab announced a temporary increase in its fuel surcharge in Singapore, effective from 7 April to 31 May 2026, to respond to fluctuations in global oil prices.
Grab, the well-known platform, has temporarily raised its fuel surcharge in Singapore to SGD 0.90 per trip, effective from 7 April to 31 May 2026, to manage the volatility of global oil prices.
This increase represents an additional fee of SGD 0.40 from before and applies to all ride-hailing services except metered taxis and certain standard services.
Grab stated that the previous "Driver Fee" of SGD 0.50 will be renamed "Fuel Surcharge" and combined into a single charge, resulting in a total fee of SGD 0.90 per trip visible to passengers.
The company explained that 100% of this fee will be passed directly to drivers to help offset rising fuel costs, and it will be clearly itemized on receipts after each trip.
Grab acknowledged the impact on users' living costs but said that given the high and unpredictable oil prices, a short-term adjustment is necessary.
In addition to the fee increase, Grab launched a driver support package valued at over SGD 1.1 million, including fuel discount coupons, increased monthly cash bonuses, and cashback rebate programs.
The company said these measures are designed to help reduce drivers' daily cost burdens amid rapidly rising fuel prices.
All these initiatives were developed in collaboration with the National Private Hire Vehicles Association, the representative organization for drivers.
Not only Grab, but other providers in Singapore are also introducing support measures. For example, Strides Premier, part of SMRT, announced a slight fare increase along with a SGD 50 fuel credit for drivers.
Meanwhile, ComfortDelGro, the country's largest taxi operator, began collecting a temporary "driver fee" and raised fares since late March.
The ride-hailing app TADA stated it is considering additional measures to help increase drivers' income and welfare.
