Donald Trump revealed he will withdraw from involvement in Iran within the next 2 to 3 weeks, emphasizing that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz should be a concern for the other countries that use that passage.
On 31 Mar 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump stated from the Oval Office at the White House that the United States is likely to complete its war mission with Iran within 2 to 3 weeks, and the conflict could end sooner if an agreement is reached.
“The only thing I have to do is withdraw from Iran, and we are going to do that very soon,” Trump said after reporters questioned him about the rising domestic oil prices and his plans to bring them back down.
The U.S. leader signaled that America will "withdraw" from Iran within 2 or 3 weeks, stating his “sole goal” was to ensure Iran does not have nuclear weapons, a goal he claimed has been achieved.
“We are closing this job,” he said, adding the U.S. will pull out “within maybe 2 weeks or possibly a few days longer to finish the work.”
“We want to eliminate everything they have completely — but now it’s possible we might reach an agreement before then.” He also said they might get a deal, but “it doesn’t matter” whether the other side “accepts negotiations” because the mission is nearly complete.
Trump noted that a regime change has occurred in Iran, saying the new Iranian leadership is “much less extreme” and more “reasonable.” If France or other countries want oil, they can sail through the Strait of Hormuz and “take care of themselves,” he stressed that the U.S. will no longer involve itself in that matter.
The U.S. leader reiterated that withdrawal will only happen once he is confident the regime cannot develop nuclear weapons for many years. “They must not possess nuclear weapons.” Whether or not an agreement is made “does not affect” the U.S. timeline for leaving Iran.
When asked about Iran’s recent threats to attack U.S. technology companies, Trump responded dismissively, questioning what Iran could do—“use BB guns” against them?
Trump stated that the U.S. can now operate without any resistance, with everything having been destroyed. The Iranian regime no longer has any air defense systems remaining.
“They didn’t resist at all, not even firing at us,” Trump claimed, explaining this was because “their weaponry has been completely destroyed” and “there’s nothing left to shoot with.”
He also claimed that Iran no longer has a navy or military forces left. “They are losing and admit defeat. Now they are begging to make a deal with us.”
