Hyundai Motor Reports 38% Surge in EV Sales in South Korea

Hyundai Motor, a leading automaker from South Korea, revealed that its electric vehicle (EV) sales in the country rose by 38% in March compared to the previous year, reflecting the continuous growth in demand for clean energy vehicles.

According to regulatory filings, Hyundai sold 7,809 EVs in South Korea in March. Sales of eco-friendly vehicles, including hybrids and EVs, set a new first-quarter record in South Korea. From January to March, the company sold 19,040 EVs and 39,597 hybrids. These figures reflect the ongoing trend toward clean energy vehicles, despite a global slowdown in the overall auto market.

However, the growth in electric vehicle sales contrasts with the company's overall sales performance. Hyundai's global vehicle sales for the same month were 358,759 units, down 2.3% year-on-year. Domestic total vehicle sales declined by 2.0%, while overseas sales across all vehicle types dropped by 2.4%.
