Iran Denies Trumps Claim of Requesting Ceasefire, Calls His Words Unreliable

Iranian officials have denied Donald Trump's claim that the Iranian president requested a ceasefire from the United States, while another official said Trump's statements are not credible.

On 1 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied President Donald Trump's claim that Iran's president is seeking a ceasefire from the U.S.

Baghaei told Al Jazeera that Trump's statement is untrue.

Earlier, Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social that the Iranian president had requested a ceasefire from the United States, and he would consider the request only if Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. Until then, the U.S. will continue its attacks on Iran.

Meanwhile, a senior unnamed Iranian official sought to downplay Trump's live address to the public about the impending Iran war, scheduled for Wednesday night (Thursday morning Thai time), telling CNN that the U.S. leader's words are not reliable.

"This type of behavior reflects an unstable and bizarre personality," the official told CNN.

This comment comes amid uncertainty over what Trump will announce in what the White House calls an "update" on the Iran war situation, scheduled for 21:00 Eastern Time on Wednesday, or about 8:00 a.m. on 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7.
