Iranian President Questions What Americans Gain from War with Iran

The president of Iran published a letter asking the American people whether going to war with Iran truly benefits the United States under the "America First" policy, while emphasizing that Iran has never wanted war.

On 1 Apr 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pesechkian released a letter addressed to the American people, questioning whether the "America First" policy is indeed one of the highest priorities of the U.S. and stating that war with Iran does not benefit the United States. He urged Americans to "look beyond political rhetoric" and to reconsider their views of their country.

"Which American interests are genuinely served by this war? Is there any concrete threat from Iran sufficient to justify such actions?" the president asked. "Is the 'America First' policy truly one of the top priorities for the U.S. government today?"

He went on to say that the perception of Iran as a threat is "a product of the personal political and economic interests of those in power," and that Tehran’s past actions have been "legitimate self-defense" rather than initiating war.

He also stated that the relationship between Iran and the U.S. has been misunderstood, affirming that Iran "has never chosen the path of aggression, expansionism, colonialism, or domination, and has never been the first to start a war in modern history."

This letter was published just hours before U.S. President Donald Trump was to address the American people nationwide about war with Iran.

"The Iranian people are not enemies of other nations, including the people of America, Europe, or neighboring countries," Pesechkian wrote in the letter, concluding by stressing that attacks on Iran’s infrastructure have broad impacts on both Iranians and people beyond the country’s borders.
