Iranian media revealed that the US and Israel launched a new attack in Tehran, severely injuring a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader, while his wife was killed.
Mehr News Agency, a semi-official Iranian media outlet, reported on Wednesday (1 Apr 2026) that Kamal Kharazi, a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, was injured in a US and Israeli attack in Tehran after he warned that the war might be prolonged.
"In today's bombing of residential homes in Tehran by the American-Zionist enemy, Dr. Kamal Kharazi was injured," Mehr News stated in its report, adding that the US and Israel have not yet commented on this report.
Nour News, a media outlet linked to Iran's security agencies, reported that Kharazi's wife died in the attack, noting that the adviser was severely injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Frederic Pleitgen, a CNN correspondent, interviewed Kharazi in Tehran in early March during a special conversation authorized by the Iranian government under local regulations.
In that interview, Kharazi told CNN he believed Iran could sustain the conflict for a long time and said he saw no path for diplomacy.
