Argentina has ordered the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador after Tehran criticized Buenos Aires for listing Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
On 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Argentina ordered the Iranian ambassador at its embassy to leave the country within 48 hours, following Tehran's condemnation of Argentina's designation of the IRGC as a terrorist group.
Argentina's Foreign Ministry declared Mr. Moshen Soltani Tehrani persona non grata, stating that Iran had made “false, aggressive, and baseless accusations” against Argentina and its senior officials.
"Argentina will not tolerate insults or interference from a state that systematically fails to fulfill its international obligations and continues to obstruct justice," the Foreign Ministry said.
In a statement issued by Iran’s embassy in Uruguay last Wednesday, Iran criticized Argentina's decision to label the IRGC a terrorist organization as “illegal and unfounded,” warning that this move would damage bilateral relations between the two countries.
Iran further stated that Argentina’s President Javier Milei, an ally of Trump, and Foreign Minister Pablo Girno have become “accomplices in the ongoing crimes and ended up on the wrong side of history” by choosing to side with the U.S. and Israel in attacks against Iran.
