French authorities have ordered the suspension of the annual Muslim gathering in central Paris for security reasons, following the impact of the Iran conflict that nearly led to a bombing at the "Bank of America" in Paris last Saturday.
Patrice For, the Paris police chief, announced on the X platform yesterday (2 Apr) that he has ordered the cancellation of the 40th annual gathering of the Muslim community in France, which was scheduled to take place from 3 to 6 April at the Paris-Le Bourget Exhibition Center. This suspension follows the directive of Laurent Nuñez, France's Minister of the Interior.
Patrice For stated that this decision was made in the context of heightened tensions both domestically and internationally, alongside an increased alert level for terrorism and a stricter approach to preventing public disorder.
Furthermore, the event would require a significant number of officers to ensure security, but many personnel are currently deployed across various high-risk areas in Paris. This follows an incident on Saturday (28 Mar) when police thwarted a bombing plot targeting the "Bank of America" office in the 8th arrondissement near the Champs-Élysées. The attack is believed to be connected to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Meanwhile, Mahlouf Mames, head of the organization responsible for the Muslim gathering, confirmed the suspension order is true and stated that the organization is preparing to legally challenge the decision.
