Trump posted a message warning Iran that only 48 hours remain to open the Strait of Hormuz; otherwise, a "disaster" will strike amid a war situation showing no signs of ending.
On 4 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social warning Iranian leaders that their time to open the Strait of Hormuz is nearly up, threatening disaster if they fail to comply.
"Remember when I gave Iran ten days to make a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz? Time is running out—only 48 hours remain before disaster strikes them," Trump's message said, ending with, "God bless!"
Previously, Trump threatened to attack various Iranian power plants if Tehran did not reopen this crucial shipping route. He first issued the 48-hour ultimatum in late March, extended the deadline several times, and then postponed it again to 6 April, citing that negotiations were "progressing well."
During a White House briefing on Wednesday, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would effectively open once the conflict ends. "They will want to sell oil because that’s the only thing they have to rebuild their country... Transportation will resume, and oil prices will rapidly fall."
Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that Iran will allow ships carrying "essential goods" to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. However, it remains unclear what Iran defines as "essential goods" or whether it will continue to block vessels from countries it considers enemies.
