U.S. Detains Relatives of Deceased Iranian General, Plans Deportation

U.S. authorities have detained relatives of the late Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and are preparing to deport them, accusing them of supporting and spreading propaganda for the Iranian regime.

On 4 Apr 2026 GMT+7, the U.S. Department of State revealed that the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of General Qasem Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force—a special unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—who was killed by the U.S. several years ago, have been arrested.

A statement released on Saturday said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked the lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status of Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter.

Rubio posted on social media that both women are currently in custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) awaiting deportation.

General Soleimani, once Iran's most powerful military commander, was killed in 2020 by a U.S. airstrike in Iraq ordered by then-President Donald Trump during his first term.

The U.S. Department of State stated that Soleimani Afshar is an “avowed supporter of Iran’s authoritarian regime and terrorist groups” and disseminates “Iranian regime propaganda” through her social media accounts.

The statement also noted that Soleimani Afshar’s husband has been banned from entering the United States, though the Department did not disclose the names of her daughter or husband.
